Ghost Dancer

by Diane L. Rogers

'The 'Dance of Ghosts', a spiritual dance of the Lakota Sioux in the late 1800s, became their hope and their demise. Their ancestors were to rise from the dead, reclaim their lands, and restore it to its natural state. But what actually happened was far from what Wovoka, their messiah, preached. "Ghost Dancers" follows Lt. George Hawkins from the Battle of the Little Big Horn to the newly established Indian reservations, to the massacre at Wounded Knee, a massacre precipitated by the Ghost Dance. Follow George on General George Crooks "Horsemeat March". Live, through George, the deaths of Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull, helpless to stop either. Love a woman more suitable to the 1990s than the 1890s. And watch, helpless again, as 300 men, women, and children are slaughtered on a frozen December morning. Here is a story of one mans determination to make a difference. Soft-Cover.

Guerrillas and Other Curiosities

By Samuel Anderson Pence

Sam Pence worked on this manuscript, for many years. Much later, after his death and at the birth of his name sake, his grandson Dan Pence edited the work; keeping the flavor of Sam’s folksy down-to-earth way of writing. Sam arranged the work in a similar style as Noted Guerrillas by John Edwards, which he references. Harold Dellinger added newer up-to-date information on the men listed. And to make things even better Sam in his lifetime had the good-fortune to be related to Donnie and Bud Pence.from which he gathered some additional information and straightened out some, on the Kentucky affairs from his uncles.
Soft-cover edition, contains a full index and appendix concerning the latest known information on the men who made that fated Kentucky trip or rode with Quantrill.

Guerrillas, Unionists, and Violence on the Confederate Home Front

Edited by Daniel E. Sutherland

Much Civil War violence occurred far away from traditional battlefields like Shiloh and Sharpsburg. Indeed, some of the war's most intense violence occurred on the Confederate home front, as family and neighbors were pitted against one another in bloody struggles for control. Mr. Sutherland reminds us that the impact of battles and elections cannot be properly understood without knowledge of what happened on the home front. These eleven essays, by noted Civil War scholars, each explore the Confederacy's war on the home front in a different state. This was a History Book Club selection. Soft-cover. 250 pages. Indexed.
